• MICHAEL SIEGEL

    CO-DIRECTOR, CHS A CAPPELLA PROGRAM

    Michael Siegel is the Vocal Music Director at Calabasas High School. Michael grew up in the Las Virgenes Unified School District. He attended Yerba Buena Elementary, Lindero Canyon Middle School, and Agoura High School before continuing his education and receiving both his bachelor's and masters in Music at CSUN.

    While at CSUN, Mr. Siegel helped start one of the school’s a cappella groups and took part in festivals and competitions. During and after college, Mr. Siegel managed music artists, produced concerts, and worked as a vocal coach with multiple singers and groups.

    Mr. Siegel is the Vocal Music Director at Calabasas High and teaches both the choral and a cappella classes. He is also the Choral Music Director for AC Stelle Middle School and a Vocal Director for the CHS theater program.

  • ALANA WEISS

    CO-DIRECTOR/CO-FOUNDER, CHS A CAPPELLA PROGRAM

    Alana Weiss is a Voice and Performance Coach, Vocal Director, and Las Virgenes Unified School District Music Specialist.

    A proud product of LVUSD herself, Alana has taught in the district for nearly 25 years.  She is a Vocal Director for the Calabasas High School theater program, she coaches the choir students at AC Stelle Middle School, and is the co-director and co-founder of Calabasas High School’s award-winning A Cappella Program. Under her leadership, the program has become a cornerstone of the a cappella community and is widely recognized as one of the top high school a cappella programs in the nation.

    A graduate of the University of California, Santa Barbara, Alana earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in Dramatic Art with an emphasis in Directing. Her background in acting, directing, and stage performance deeply informs her approach to vocal direction, emphasizing authenticity, emotional connection, and performances that are not only powerful to hear but captivating to watch.

    Beyond the classroom, Alana is a frequent judge for the International Championship of Collegiate and High School A Cappella, a masterclass clinician, and a respected voice in the contemporary a cappella community. In addition to her professional work, Alana devotes herself and her time to her husband, Adam, and their daughters, Taylor and Charley.

  • MATEO GONZALES

    COACH, CHS A CAPPELLA PROGRAM

    Mateo Gonzales is an alumni of the CHS A Cappella Program and has returned as a coach for both Unstrumental and Bare Rhythm. He is a graduate from the University of Southern California Thornton School of Music where he majored in Popular Music, with an emphasis in Vocals and Songwriting.

    Mateo is an experienced session vocalist, top-liner, and award-winning arranger. He has performed and recorded background vocals with artists like Pentatonix, Libianca, and Trousdale. As a songwriter, he currently works with Challenge America as a part of their Music Therapy Retreats, which help veterans struggling with PTSD to cope with the trauma of their military experience.

    Mateo’s arrangements have been performed in theaters nationally, and he was awarded “Best Arrangement” at the 2023 International Championship of Collegiate A Cappella Quarterfinal in Los Angeles with the college a cappella group he also music directed, The SoCal VoCals.

  • JOSHUA BARROLL

    FORMER CO-DIRECTOR/FOUNDER, CHS A CAPPELLA PROGRAM (2001 - 2022)

    Joshua Barroll founded the Calabasas High School A Cappella Program in 2001 and was the director of the CHS Music Program from 1997 until 2022. Under his direction, the CHS A Cappella Program was widely recognized as one of the best high school a cappella programs in the country. He can currently be found teaching the young musicians at Bay Laurel Elementary School in Calabasas.
